Mark Pedelty

Mark Pedelty is a Professor of Communication Studies and Anthropology at the University of Minnesota and Fellow at the Institute on the Environment. He is the author of several books, including Ecomusicology: Rock, Folk and the Environment (Temple University Press) and A Song to Save the Salish Sea: Musical Performance as Environmental Activism (Indiana University Press), as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters examining environmental musicianship. Dr. Pedelty has conducted ethnographic field research in El Salvador, Mexico, British Columbia, and Washington State. He also directs documentaries and music videos, composes, and performs for Ecosong.net, earning forty festival selections and awards to date. Dr. Pedelty produces the Public Lands Podcast and teaches courses in environmental music, environmental communication, audio production and field research methods.
